Many people tell me that you can make money as an affiliate marketer, which is all true. I am not going to gainsay that fact. But if you take a different look at the whole idea of affiliate marketing, you will see why it is not as lucrative a deal as it is supposed to be. Let's just say that a popular product hits the market and you want to promote it. Fine, but do you think that you would be the only player who is going to promote it? Not at all, what is more, besides not being the only promoter, you would probably be in competition with some of the biggest names in this field. You are going to go head to head with people who must have some of the biggest ad lists in the field, probably running into hundreds of thousands. In simple terms, this means that your share of the pie is going to be really small.



Now, let's take a look at the other idea, which is, developing your own product. With your own product, you will have no competition and in addition if you set up an affiliate program, you will have other people doing the promotion for you as well. With this, you should be able to make sales out of your efforts as well as the efforts of those doing the promotion for you. As a result of my first product launch, I had managed to increase my personal income fourfold.



I have been asked a lot of times as to whether it is really hard to create your own product. The answer is a big resounding 'no'. It is so easy that anybody should be able to create one if they can put their minds to it. With the technology that is available to us today, we should be able to create a product at virtually no cost. A digital information product can be created by using Open Office, which by the way, is free to download. With that, anyone should be able to create an ebook, it is that easy.



Then there is the query about the sales pages. Well, I am not going to beat around the bush on this one. If you are not a good copywriter, then it is a very good idea to get someone else to do it for you. There are a lot of good copywriters out there, including myself, who do not charge astronomical fees for undertaking the job. In addition to that, there are some really good books on copywriting including my 'Basic copywriting in plain English', that should give you all the basics that you would need. Soon you would have no trouble as far as your writing skills go.



As you can see, creating your own products is not hard at all and it really does not have to cost much either. If you want your business to grow significantly then this is the way to go about it.

The key is not therefore be frustrated just because you happen to work on a very limited amount. Small businesses are often very imaginative, especially when it comes to stretching their money and making sure that every penny is put to good use. They may not have the money, but they do have excellent marketing tools that show professionalism and credibility.
